Long answer

Dehydrated onions are commonly included in recipes and function to flavor food a bit more intensely. However, they may be more than just flavoring aids, as research shows that dehydrated onions can offer health benefits in the form of essential nutrients. First of all, dehydrated onions are very low in sodium, fat, and calories. Unlike many other spices and flavoring aids, dehydrated onions contain only two milligrams of salt per teaspoon. Therefore, consuming dehydrated onions in your food rather than other spices with more sodium can help you ensure that you do not exceed your recommended daily sodium intake.

A teaspoon-sized serving of dehydrated onions contains just eight calories and zero fat. Again, because they are so low in sodium, fat, and calories, consuming dehydrated onions in place of other spices can help you lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Dehydrated onions also contain many beneficial nutrients, including calcium, potassium, and magnesium. One serving contains nine milligrams of calcium and three milligrams of magnesium, both of which help promote strong bones and healthy muscle functioning. Furthermore, each serving contains twenty-four milligrams of potassium, which aids in the regulation of blood pressure and promotes smooth digestion. Although dehydrated onions only contain a small percentage of the daily recommended intake for each of these nutrients, just remember that every little bit counts.
