Are Thongs Bad For You?

Short answer

Thongs pose a risk for infection. If you are going to wear one, we recommend it be cotton. It's also important to maintain proper hygiene down there.

Long answer

Thongs are a popular type of underwear which are considered to be more attractive than other styles and are frequently used to conceal underwear lines under tight or see-through clothing, such as leggings or body-con dresses. But, are thongs actually harming your health?

The biggest risk for avid thong-wearers is infection. Vaginal and urinary tract infections are more likely to develop if you frequently wear a thong. This increased risk is due to the fact that thongs are generally not made of breathable material, such as cotton, and thereby provide a very moist environment for bacteria to grow. Furthermore, thongs often rub the skin more than other styles of underwear and can create small tears in the skin allowing access to harmful microbes.

While it is important to be aware of the above-mentioned risks, buying cotton thongs and maintaining good personal hygiene is (in most cases) enough to wear a thong without any worries of bad effects.
