Deer Park water is not bad for you. Unlike many other brands who simple package tap water, Deer Park uses spring water, which is freer from pollutants and full of various trace minerals. They also use BPA-free bottles.

Long answer

The biggest difference between Deer Park and many other mainstream brands of water is their use of 100% natural spring water. Brands such as Dasani don't use spring water. Instead, their ingredient label will read "purified water". This is a fancy term for tap water with some added minerals. Spring water, on the other hand, is water that has been filtered by the earth itself and then sourced. Spring water generally contains fewer pollutants and more important trace minerals when compared to water sourced elsewhere.

After being collected from the spring, Deer park water then undergoes a 10-step quality/safety check before bottling. Deer Park further discloses their spring water sources from each state, and they release a yearly water analysis report publically that is performed by a third party lab.

In 2015, Deer Park reported minimal amounts of the following inorganics occasionally present in their Natural Spring Water bottles: fluoride, nitrate, and bromide. These amounts fall below the FDA and EPA standards of quality. Toxicity levels of these compounds are much, much more than what is found in Deer Park water.

The minerals chloride, calcium, magnesium, and sodium can also be found naturally occurring in their spring water and are beneficial to our bodies in a number of ways.

Deer Park Natural Spring Water is slightly alkaline. The company’s 2015 quality report states the pH is 6.6 - 8.5. The higher the pH number, the more alkaline the water. Alkaline water can be very beneficial to your health. It detoxifies and hydrates, contains antioxidants, and boosts your immune system. Many illnesses cannot grow in an alkaline environment, including cancer cells. Granted, to get these benefits you would need to drink alkaline water on a regular basis and with some consistency which you are not likely to get with bottled water that comes from multiple sources.

Lastly, Deer Park uses BPA-free plastic water bottles, which is great because BPA is known to disrupt the endocrine system and lead to a host of negative effects ranging from reproductive disorders to breast cancer.
